Transistor - Wikipedia

A transistor is a semiconductor device used to amplify or switch electronic signals and electrical power. It is composed of semiconductor material usually with at least three terminals for connection to an external circuit. A voltage or current applied to one pair of the transistor's terminals controls the current through another pair of terminals. Because the controlled (output) power can be ....

transistor | Definition & Uses | Britannica

Transistor, semiconductor device for amplifying, controlling, and generating electrical signals. Transistors are the active components of integrated circuits, or “microchips,” which often contain billions of these minuscule devices etched into their shiny surfaces. Deeply embedded in almost everything electronic, transistors have become the ....

Transistors: What Are They and How Do They Work?

A transistor is an electronic component used in a circuit to control a large amount of current or voltage with a small amount of voltage or current. This means that it can be used to amplify or switch (rectify) electrical signals or power, allowing it to be used in a wide array of electronic devices..

Transistors: Amazon.com

Each type of transistor has properties that suit it for specific tasks. General purpose and bipolar transistors are available individually and in assortments. Kits are available to build demonstration projects, such as radios, and may include additional electronic components. When choosing a transistor, consider the voltage and current ....

How Transistors Work | HowStuffWorks

In 1947, Shockley was director of transistor research at Bell Telephone Labs. Brattain was an authority on solid-state physics as well as expert on nature of atomic structure of solids and Bardeen was an electrical engineer and physicist. Within a year, Bardeen and Brittain used the element germanium to create an amplifying circuit, also called ....
